Why we built this site

Most psychologist-salary content online is one of two things: scraped marketplace pages on ZipRecruiter or Glassdoor where the numbers come from sparse user submissions, or aggregated wage tables from government sources presented without context. Neither is useful when you actually need to decide whether to specialise in I-O psychology, move to a higher-paying state, or open a private practice.

We started PsychologistSalary.com to publish the answer the marketplace sites do not: BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics rendered correctly (means, medians, percentiles, properly labelled), specialty breakouts that actually reflect the SOC codes (19-3030, 19-3032, 19-3033, 19-3034, 19-3039), and decision support for the questions psychologists are actually asking. We show our methodology so you can reproduce our numbers.

We are not a recruiter. We do not run job boards. We do not sell programs. We earn a small referral fee when readers we send to a partner (online psychology programs, continuing-education providers, career-services tools) take an action there. Those relationships do not influence our salary data, our methodology, or which programs we name.

How decisions get made

  • Salary data is taken from the BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) dataset, refreshed when the BLS publishes new figures.
  • Specialty-level numbers reference the specific SOC codes BLS publishes for each specialty (Industrial-Organizational, Clinical & Counseling, School), supplemented by APA member surveys for specialties without dedicated SOC codes (forensic, neuropsychology, sports psychology).
  • Editorial content (career path explainers, decision frameworks, comparisons) is written and reviewed by Oliver. Every page is fact-checked before publication and re-verified annually.
  • Reader corrections are taken seriously. If you find an error, email us and we fix it within 48 hours.

What we publish, and what we do not

We do
  • Publish BLS-sourced salary data with full provenance
  • Show our calculation methodology in detail
  • Explain trade-offs between specialties
  • Disclose when a link is an affiliate
  • Update salary data when BLS publishes new datasets
  • Correct mistakes when readers report them
We do not
  • Sell job listings or candidate data
  • Take undisclosed sponsorships
  • Rank programs based on payment
  • Auto-generate content with AI without human review
  • Provide individual career or financial advice
  • Sell or rent your email address

We use AI tools (Claude and other large language models) to draft, summarise, and quality-check content. Every page is reviewed and edited by a human before publication. AI is a writing assistant; never an editor.
